Annual CureFish Fishing Tournament Rules

  1. The CureFish Saltwater Tournament date is Saturday, March 21, 2020. This is a Benefit Tournament for Brain Cancer Research. Weigh in will be at Top Water Grill, 815 Avenue O, San Leon, TX, 77539.
  2. Entry fee is $150 per Team with a max of 2 anglers. However additional team entrants up to a maximum of 4 anglers are $50 extra each. 4 angler teams are $250. Sponsorship with a Fishing Team is $300. Entrants wishing to fish alone will fish as their own Team. This is both a Team and Individual tournament in terms of prizes and categories. Youth, 12 and under are free, but may enter in the adult division as a paid Team member.
  3. There will be registration Friday evening, March 20, 2020 starting at 5 pm until 8 pm at Top Water Grill’s Palapa at 815 Avenue O, San Leon, TX 77539. Silent Auction items or pictures of the items will be present at the registration and at the weigh in. Participants and their families are welcome. Donations will gladly be accepted for the non-tournament entrants. Silent Auction ends at 3:30 pm or after the tournament awards on Saturday.
  4. Credit cards or cash will be accepted at the registration. On line registration at Curefest.com ends Friday evening, March 20th at 8:00 pm.
  5. Once the tournament starts, it constitutes a tournament. All entrants fish at their own risk.
  6. All State, Federal and Texas Parks & Wildlife Regulations shall apply at all times.
  7. Tournament and Fishing begins at 6:15 am, sunrise at 6:18 am, Sat., March 21st. No lines in water until 6:15 am.
  8. Weigh in begins at 1 pm and ends at 3 pm on March 21st. At least one member of the Team shall be in the check in line with their fish and acknowledged by the Weigh Master by 3 pm. No exceptions & allow for traffic.
  9. Tournament Director reserves the right to reschedule in case of inclement weather. If the tournament is rescheduled due to inclement weather, it will be posted on CureFest’s Facebook page by 6 am the morning of the tournament. Entrants are responsible to verify the tournament is not rescheduled.
  10. All fish shall be caught by rod and reel. Live bait, dead bait or artificial lures are allowed.
  11. Full & Part Time Fishing guides that received payment as a guide in Years 2019 and 2020 year to date of tournament are not allowed to enter the tournament or assist any entrants the day of the tournament.
  12. Tournament fishing is limited to public accessible waters. No fishing is allowed in private ponds.
  13. Fishing is allowed from: boat, kayak, public fishing piers, jetties, and shorelines. Wade fishing is allowed. Entrants are free to trailer their boat or kayak.
  14. People choosing to fish in kayaks as a team must launch and dock together if more than 1 kayak and stay within 200 yards of each other. Wade fisherman teams must stay within 200 yards of their other team member.
  15. All tournament boats are expected to maintain a respectable distance between all boaters and wade fisherman.
  16. Any altered fish by length or weight is not allowed and the entire Team will be disqualified for such fish.
  17. Fish shall be fresh and in edible condition or the fish will be disqualified at the weigh in. Frozen, thawed, mutilated or inedible fish will not be accepted for weigh-in. No penalty for dead fish or bonus for live fish.
  18. Only Texas slot size fish will be accepted at weigh in and for the tournament. Fish outside the TX. slot limits will be disqualified. Only 1 trout over 25” per Team will be accepted. Redfish over 28” will not be accepted.
  19. The tournament will not provide weigh in bags for the weigh in.
  20. Tournament will have both Team and Individual categories as noted below:
    1. Team Categories are listed below:
      1. Heaviest TX. Slam – (1 each: flounder, trout & redfish)
      2. Heaviest Trout Stringer with only 1 over 25” allowed – 3 fish max.
      3. Heaviest Redfish Stringer – 3 fish max.
    2. Individual Categories are listed below:
      1. Heaviest Trout – (from team stringer)
      2. Heaviest Redfish – (from team stringer)
      3. Redfish with Most Spots (touching spots count as 1 spot) – (may be 4th redfish)
      4. Lady’s Heaviest Single Fish (Redfish, Trout or Flounder only)
  21. Winners are limited to One prize per Team and One prize per Individual. If a Team or an Individual has won a prize, next position will be up for a prize pending their winnings. Prize is cash or trophy as applicable.
  22. Payouts are as noted:
    1. Team Categories (3) – Cash for first 2 positions ($500 / $250) and Plaque for 3rd place.
    2. Individual Categories (4) – Cash for first 2 positions ($300 / $150) and Plaque for 3rd place.
    3. Team “Dead Ass Last” Trophy for lightest 3 redfish stringer min. weighed in.
  23. In case of a Tie for Team categories, the heaviest fish within a stringer category for the Team breaks a tie, then earliest check in time if tie still exists.
  24. In case of a Tie for Individual categories, earliest check in time will break the tie. If a tie still exists for individuals on same team, then the payout places will be combined and split for the individuals involved.
  25. All fish will be measured using a Check It Stick on V board with minimal to zero slope. Flounder will be measured on a flat surface. The tails will be pinched or tails will be swept for maximum fish length. The Tournament measuring stick will be available at the Appreciation event to compare against a Team’s measuring board.
  26. All decisions are final by the Weigh Master and the Tournament Director. In case of a protest, all protests must be filed in writing prior to final weigh-in time by the Team Captain. $100 in cash must accompany the written protest, to be returned if protest is deemed justified by Tournament Director and the Tournament Board.
  27. All Fish submitted to the weigh in will be returned to the Tournament entrants after weighed in. Only exception is if a fish is deemed altered for length or weight, it may be retained for further examination by the Tournament Director to give to TX. Parks and Wildlife for further examination. Entire team’s fish will be DQ’d for such fish.

  29. This is the first CureFish Saltwater Fishing Tournament for “Casting Aside Doubt” that Benefits Brain Cancer Research. The CureFish tournament is put on by CureFest, Inc., 19507 Suncove Lane, Humble, Texas 77346.

CureFest Inc., and its Sponsors, Supporters, Tournament organizers, Committee and Volunteers (collectively, “CureFest”) are not liable or responsible for any accident or injury (including death) or loss, damage, or theft to any person, personal effects or property arising from or related to the tournament or its appreciation event.

    12 Years Old and Under Division Rules of CureFish Tournament

  32. Entry Fee is Free and may fish anywhere including in a boat with a Team keeping the fish separate. Entry will be done when Entrant brings fish / crab to the weigh in. Weigh in is from 1 pm till 3 pm at the TopWater Grill.
  33. 12 Years Old and Under portion of the tournament have 3 Individual categories.
  34. Trophies will be given as prizes to the first 3 positions in each category.
  35. Winners in the 12-Year-Old and Under division can only win one place and one trophy. If an Individual has won a trophy, next position will be up for a trophy pending their winnings.
  36. Only 1 fish / crab per Category maybe weighed in per entrant.
  37. 12 Years Old and Under Individual categories are:
    1. Heaviest Redfish
    2. Heaviest Trout
    3. Heaviest Crab
  38. All 12 Year Olds and Under shall be supervised by an adult while fishing at all times.
  39. All applicable rules from the adult division above, except for payouts and entry fee for junior division.
